Coughing calves

I’ve just had to treat 30 calves with antibiotics for an outbreak of pneumonia. We were not entirely sure about the diagnosis but the calves were slow and subdued with the odd snotty nose and cough . I think that we have caught them soon enough to prevent any fatalities but I will reserve judgement for a day or two. ¬†As a rule we rarely treat cattle for pneumonia, with our open sheds there is plenty of fresh air, but in farming nothing stays the same for very long and just when you think you have a problem solved it comes back to hoof you up the backside.
